What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a form of counselling and coaching that is very solution-focused.

How does NLP work?

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is about:

Neuro relates to your neurology: your brain and nervous system. It relates to how you give meaning to your experiences – in how you see, hear and feel.

Linguistic relates to language. The words you use give meaning to your experience. They can also shape your experience. Using the right words will light up your neurology in a positive way.

Programming refers to your strategies for dealing with life: your patterns, habitual emotions and belief systems. These determine your action, behaviour and also influence how you feel. They play a role in how you respond to events, and how you achieve your goals.

Drawing from these three elements, Michelle empowers you to find better ways. You connect to new strategies and resources within yourself.

This is a deeply respectful process. Michelle does not ‘program’ you. Rather, she respects the choices you made in the past, and simply helps you:

  • uncover your existing ‘programming’

Time Line Therapy

Time Line Therapy helps you release negative beliefs. It also helps you shed recurrent feelings like anger, sadness, fear, hurt or guilt.

The power of Time Line Therapy comes from this: you gain positive learnings from past events and integrate these into your present and the future. The process puts you back in control and allows you to re-write your experience of what happened – in a positive and empowering way.

It is particularly useful for resolving past trauma, and letting go of stressful experiences in the past. It helps you to (re)gain optimism and hope about your present, and the future.

What happens in Time Line Therapy? Michelle brings your awareness to an event in the past. This is the first event which gave rise to the negative belief, or feelings.

Then, as you are feeling safe and supported, Michelle helps you resolve the stress of that first event, and take the positive learnings from that event. This allows you to heal and move on with strength and grace.

These positive learnings are then applied to all the subsequent events, from the original event, all the way back to now. If you imagine the past as a chain of events (or a string of beads), the positive learnings are applied to each relevant event (or each relevant bead). You gain more positive learnings, release more negative feelings, and heal more thoroughly. The result? You move on as a stronger and wiser person.
